Janaka enjoys a broad practice of Crime, Civil and immigration law. He has had a long and eclectic career in Education, IT and E Commerce in countries ranging from Japan and Siberia to Sri Lanka. He has used his experience of life to sensitively work with many challenging clients and to obtain outstanding results. He is known for his tenacity in the most difficult of cases.

 

CRIME

 

Janaka both defends and prosecutes at the Magistrates’ Courts and Crown Court.

 

Notable successes include a Not Guilty verdict in a two-month Crown Court trial with 11 defendants for immigration fraud and limiting sentence to 6 only years for number 2 in a multi-hander £50 million cocaine conspiracy.

 

Janaka’s criminal experience ranges from driving offences to serious violence, fraud and murder.

 

 

CIVIL

 

Janaka receives instructions for both Claimants and Defendants and has dealt with fast and multi-track trials for breach of contract, leasehold disputes, bankruptcy, landlord and tenant and employment matters. Janaka is also instructed in matters dealing with injunctions, neighbour disputes and non-molestation orders.

 

IMMIGRATION

 

Janaka has a thriving immigration practice. He regularly appears in both the lower and upper tribunals and has travelled to centres around the country for appeals. With an interest in EU Law and having personal links in Germany, given recent events, Janaka now advises European citizens intending to remain in the UK and those businesses who wish to maintain effective trade links with the EU.

 

DIRECT ACCESS

 

Janaka is a qualified direct access barrister and can be directly instructed by members of the public.

 

OTHER INTERESTS

 

Janaka has a keen interest in Social Justice and mentoring troubled young people. He has been a Director of AYBI, a boxing charity and he is in the process of building a charity to promote links with the Metropolitan Police to reduce Gang Violence.
